Cadence is a tool, not a religion

A higher cadence often saves the run, especially for bigger men who mash a big gear. You do not need 100 rpm everywhere. You need a gear you can turn over when the road kicks, without standing on every rise.

On one ride a week, pick a flat and spin 5 rpm higher than usual for 10 minutes. If your heart rate spikes and your hips rock, you went too far. Smooth and a little quicker is the goal.
